Kunar, Afghanistan — September 2, 2025
Aseel is responding to the devastating earthquake that struck Kunar Province last night, leaving more than 600 people dead, hundreds injured, and families trapped under collapsed buildings. Continuous aftershocks and falling mountain tips have created a state of fear and danger across the region, forcing families to spend the night outdoors.
“Our Atalan team has reached the affected areas, but conditions remain dire,” said Aseel’s field response lead. “With aftershocks happening every few minutes, even those with standing homes are too afraid to go back inside. Many others no longer have a roof at all.”
Delivering even the most basic aid is extremely challenging. A simple meal package distribution took more than five hours due to blocked roads and dangerous conditions. Every hour outdoors exposes families to further risks as mountain cliffs continue to collapse from the tremors.
Aseel has launched the Emergency Earthquake Relief Package for Kunar, providing immediate food, clean water, shelter, and medical support to survivors. With the death toll rising every hour, urgent international attention and support are critical.
“This is a race against time,” said an Aseel spokesperson. “Every moment we delay means more lives lost. The people of Kunar are sleeping under the open sky, fearing the next tremor, and they need the world’s support right now.”
